Our founders

item was established in 1976 by two young and ambitious engineers, Gerrit Pies and Wolfgang Rixen. To begin with, the startup company focussed on designing, building and marketing specialist machinery.

The highly specialised, cost-effective and high-performance machinery from item offered ingenious solutions for complex requirements.

Our headquarters

Over 40 years ago, our two founders laid the foundations for our company in the rooms of a former launderette in Solingen. Today, Solingen is home to our new European headquarters, which opened in 2016. At this site alone, which covers an area of 67,500 square metres, more than 200 members of staff work hard to ensure our international business partners and customers always receive their goods on time.
