Based in Ingolstadt, Audi AG is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium automobiles, employing around 90,000 members of staff. The company offers its customers vehicles that can be individually configured and utilises cutting-edge production technologies. For example, mobile industrial robot systems are used in intralogistics at the Neckarsulm site. Our item Building Kit System provides the basic components for designing and constructing the supply trolleys utilised by the industrial robots.

In the manufacture of the Audi A8, the company offers a wide range of customised design options, and this requires a lot of flexibility in terms of material supply. Different components must be delivered to the production line in a precise sequence – despite the substantial distance between storage and production.
To ensure this happens, industrial robots with supply trolleys made from item components were introduced to create – in combination with goods wagons – a flexible, automated transport system. The aim was to overcome the logistical challenges associated with complex routes, safeguard ergonomic standards and orient the system to future production requirements.

The synergy of industrial robots and supply trolleys made from item components brought the perfect solution. Our modular aluminium profile technology made it possible to adapt the trolleys to the circumstances on site. They can transport up to 24 components simultaneously, and benefit from a low dead weight, economical energy consumption and straightforward model switchover. In addition, they boast built-in rotating mechanisms and drawer systems. Ergonomic order picking and material removal is particularly easy with supply trolleys that can be fitted out on both sides.
